The Memorial Tournament 2025: Scottie Scheffler runs away with another event amid dominant stretchNew Foto - The Memorial Tournament 2025: Scottie Scheffler runs away with another event amid dominant stretch

Scottie Scheffler is in the midst of another incredible run. Scheffler, after winning twice last month on the PGA Tour, ran away with the Memorial Tournament on Sunday afternoon. That marked his third win in four starts, and it further separated him from the rest of the golf world. Scheffler posted a final-round 70 at Muirfield Village in Ohio, which was enough to propel him to the four-shot win at Jack's Place. That gave him his third win of the season, and the 16th of his Tour career. Only Sam Snead, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods have reached 16 wins quicker in their careers than Scheffler has. This was also Scheffler's third successful title defense on Tour in his career. "This is a golf course that's definitely going to expose your weaknesses," Scheffler said on CBS. "I've got a few things that I can practice next week, but overall it was a really solid week. Did some really good battling today. [My caddie] Teddy and I did a really good job of working our way around the course and not getting ahead of ourselves and putting up another really good round on this very difficult golf course." The winner's handshake belongs to Scottie Scheffler. 🤝pic.twitter.com/nECKhKFueJ — Golf on CBS ⛳ (@GolfonCBS)June 1, 2025 The top-ranked golfer in the world jumped into the lead Saturday after he carded four birdies in a five-hole span. While there were five golfers within five shots of the lead to start the day, including Ben Griffin who was just one back, nobody made a legitimate move on Scheffler. Scheffler made the turn Sunday at 1-under, and then he offset a bogey at the 10th with a birdie on the very next hole. Meanwhile, just about everyone else dropped back. Griffin made back-to-back birdies early on his back nine to fall four behind, and Nick Taylor went three over in a five-hole stretch after making the turn himself. By the time Scheffler stepped up to the tee at No. 15, his lead had ballooned to four. The lead, despite an eagle from Griffin that briefly brought him back, held easily for Scheffler. He made three straight pars to close out his win without any issue and post his third 70 of the week. Scheffler joins Woods as the only golfers in history to win in back-to-back seasons at the Memorial Tournament. Griffin, who made a double bogey after his eagle-birdie push, finished alone in second at 6-under for the week. Sepp Straka came in third at 5-under, and Taylor was a shot back at 4-under. Scheffler's first win of the season came at The CJ Cup Byron Nelson, where he got to 31-under and won by eight. He then came out two weeks later and held on to win the PGA Championship, which gave him his third career major championship. While he failed to win a trophy last week at the Charles Schwab Challenge, Scheffler still finished T4. That marked his eighth top-10 finish and sixth in a row. Scheffler is not in the field at the RBC Canadian Open next week, so his next appearance will be at the U.S. Open in two weeks at Oakmont. Scheffler has never won that major, though he's finished inside the top five in two of the past three outings. Scheffler, though, is sure to be the clear favorite. And with the way he's playing lately, it's going to be difficult for anyone in the field to keep up with him.

Controversy struck theWomen's College World Series(WCWS) during an elimination game between UCLA and Tennessee on Sunday. Bruins first baseman Megan Grant came up to the plate with two outs and a runner on first and crushed a pitch off Volunteers pitcherKarlyn Pickensto tie the game, or so everyone thought. Click Here For More Sports Coverage On Foxnews.com Grant rounded third and headed for home to celebrate with her teammates. She didn't appear to touch home plate and a teammate needed to bring her back to make sure she did. Tennessee challenged the run and umpires reviewed it to see whether she touched home plate and whether she was "assisted" back to make sure she definitely made contact with it. College softball rules specify that a runner cannot be physically assisted by a teammate to touch the plate. "After review, the call on the field is upheld and the run will score," the umpire announced. "The runner did miss home plate and was assisted. However, that play is not reviewable, according to Appendix G." Read On The Fox News App Appendix G in the NCAA softball rulebook determines what is reviewable. Carlos Alcaraz, two Americans advance to French Open quartersNew Foto - Carlos Alcaraz, two Americans advance to French Open quarters

Spain's Carlos Alcaraz withstood a long opening set and a brief rally from American opponent Ben Shelton Sunday to earn a four-set victory and advance to the quarterfinals of the French Open in Paris. The World No. 2 prevailed in a 7-6 (8) marathon in one hour and seven minutes in the first set, then took two of the next three (6-3, 4-6, 6-4) to close things out against the 13th seed. "Today I fought against myself, against the mind," Alcaraz said. "I just tried to calm myself. In some moments I was mad, I was angry with myself. Talking not really good things but I am really happy to not let those thoughts play against me. I tried to calm myself down and I tried to keep going. That is what I tried." To wit, the pair combined for 90 unforced errors, 43 of those coming from Alcaraz. But he also saved seven of nine break points and had 43 winners, notching 31 points at the net in the three-hour, 22-minute win. "We have huge respect for each other," Alcaraz said of Shelton. "We played really good tennis and entertained the fans. He is a really powerful player, he can make any shot. I think we played really great tennis. Coming to the net, drop shots, forehands. For me it is great having Ben around. I think it is great energy for the people and I love watching Ben play." The French Open's defending champion is chasing his third win on clay this season, having previously won in Monte-Carlo and Rome. Alcaraz will next face another American in No. 12 seed Tommy Paul, who raced to a 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 victory over Australian No. 25 seed Alexei Popyrin. By advancing in Paris, Paul became the only active American to reach the quarters of three of the four majors (Australian Open 2023, Wimbledon 2024), and per the ATP, just the ninth American to ever pull off the feat. Previous quarterfinalists at three majors included Andre Agassi, Michael Chang, Jimmy Connors, Jim Courier, Vitas Gerulaitis, Brian Gottfried, John McEnroe and Pete Sampras. "I'm enjoying it a lot," Paul said. Despite enduring five aces by his opponent, Paul grabbed 27 winners and benefitted from 37 unforced errors by Popyrin. Paul was 9-for-10 on break points saved and 5-for-6 on break points converted, winning in a fast one hour and 52 minutes. "It was nice to get a straight-sets win today, give the body a little rest," Paul said. "I mean, as much as I love the five-setters, I definitely like the three-setters a little bit better. I am just excited for more matches." Paul became the first American to make the quarters at Roland Garros since Agassi in 2003. That drought was put to an even more emphatic end later in the day when No. 15 seed Frances Tiafoe also emerged with a win, defeating Germany's Daniel Altmaier 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (4). Tiafoe finished with 40 winners and had six aces without a double fault. Altmaier had three double faults and 33 unforced errors. Tiafoe's next opponent will be No. 8 seed Lorenzo Musetti of Italy, who clawed past No. 10 seed Holger Rune of Denmark 7-5, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. Rune piled up 50 winners but committed a whopping 55 unforced errors, 23 in the first set alone. Musetti went 6-for-8 in converting break points against Rune. --Field Level Media
