Yarbrough's revenge: How a World Series ring inspired his win for the Yankees over the DodgersNew Foto - Yarbrough's revenge: How a World Series ring inspired his win for the Yankees over the Dodgers

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Ryan Yarbrough picked up a dazzling World Series ring from his time with the Los Angeles Dodgers last season. Then he went out and beat them. The New York Yankees starter pitched one-run ball over six innings, struck out a season-high five and blanked the Dodgers' top four hitters ina 7-3 win Sunday night. "I feel like I'm in a really good place right now and really trying to continue that," Yarbrough said. "I'm having a lot of fun." The 33-year-old left-hander made 44 relief appearances between the Dodgers and Blue Jays last season. The Dodgers designated him for assignment on July 29 and the next day traded him to Toronto. So even though he wasn't around for their World Series victory over the Yankees last fall, Yarbrough earned a ring. He accepted it from Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes on Friday behind home plate during batting practice. "Trying to keep that a little discreet, especially with where we're at now, but kind of cool to be able to get that," Yarbrough said. He signed a $2 million, one-year deal with New York in March and is 3-0 with a 2.83 ERA this season. Making his first career start against the Dodgers, Yarbrough recorded 17 swings-and-misses — including seven with his sweeper. The top four hitters in Los Angeles' lineup had produced at least one hit in every game this season. That is, until Shohei Ohtani, Teoscar Hernández, Freddie Freeman and Will Smith combined to go 0 for 14 in the series finale against Yarbrough and the Yankees. New York manager Aaron Boone has called Yarbrough a throwback, noting his 6-foot-5 frame creates a "funky" angle for hitters. "He's got a lot of ways to get you out. Just when you think he's slowing you down, slowing you down, he's able to speed you up enough," Boone said. "It feels like it's hard to get a bead on him." It certainly was for Ohtani. He struck out on five pitches ranging from 70-86 mph in the first inning, when Yarbrough retired the side in order. Later, he set down 13 of 15 batters before exiting. "He's not going to light up the radar gun, but all his pitches feel like they get on you," teammate DJ LeMahieu said. "His fastballs look like they get on you and his off-speed looks extra slow. He's got good stuff and he knows what he's doing out there." Yarbrough conceded his familiarity with his ex-teammates helped, too. "It was just a matter of execution and keeping them off balance and not putting them in counts where they can really hunt for certain pitches," he said. It was also a big night for LeMahieu, who had his first four-hit game since 2021. He drove in two runs and raised his batting average to .239. The second baseman had three singles and a double on a night when Aaron Judge was the only Yankees player without a hit. "I feel good. Good to get some results," LeMahieu said. ___ AP MLB:https://apnews.com/hub/mlb

Coastal Carolina baseball coach rips Florida coach Kevin O'Sullivan after reported outburst: 'Absolutely disrespectful'New Foto - Coastal Carolina baseball coach rips Florida coach Kevin O'Sullivan after reported outburst: 'Absolutely disrespectful'

Kevin Schnall made sure to call out Florida baseball coach Kevin O'Sullivan on his way out of the Conway Regional on Sunday. Schnall, who led Coastal Carolina to a 1-0 win over East Carolina to advance into the super regional round of the NCAA baseball tournament, called out O'Sullivan for a reported altercation on site earlier in the day. O'Sullivan, according to multiple reports, had "ripped into" tournament staff over a scheduling change. Specifics of that incident aren't known, but Schnall made sure to speak out about it after his team's win. Florida coach Kevin O'Sullivan was very upset with the schedule change for today. He ripped into the NCAA staff here in Conway. He also reportedly had things to say to the Pirates as they crossed the field this morning. Should be interesting! — Brian Bailey (@bbaileywnct)June 1, 2025 "Another coach disrespected our associate AD, who works as hard as anybody in our entire program," Schnall said. "He disrespected our field crew, who are the salt of the earth. These guys would do anything for our program. It's not OK. This needs to be brought up. Absolutely disrespectful. "As a coach, it's our job to mentor young kids and the way he treated the two site reps, the way he treated our associate AD, the way he treated our field crew is absolutely unacceptable. That's what I'm most disappointed about. This is a national champion coach who thinks he can come in here and try to bully people around. "I'm disappointed. Somebody that a lot of coaches look up to, for him to act that way, I'm really disappointed. He disrespected a hall-of-fame coach who's the site rep here. That's all I've got to say." There was an incident that occurred prior to the Florida/ECU game that had people talking.Reportedly Florida HC Kevin O'Sullivan was upset that the game was moved. He was seen ripping into CCU officials & NCAA OfficialsCCU Kevin Schnall made sure to address the matterpic.twitter.com/jQS5vvlJPO — Brandon Dunn (@BDunnsports)June 2, 2025 Schnall didn't call out O'Sullivan by name, but his messaging was pretty clear. O'Sullivan has led the Gators to the College World Series nine times throughout his coaching career, and he won a championship with them in 2017. Regardless, Schnall came out on top. East Carolina beat Florida 11-4 to knock the Gators out of the tournament. Coastal Carolina then beat the Pirates in the final game at the regional. That pushed the Chanticleers, who are the No. 13 seed nationally, into the super regional for the first time since 2016. They'll take on Auburn in the next round.

UTSA will play in itsfirst NCAA baseball super regional. The victory led to coach Pat Hallmark leaping into the arms of pitcher Conor Myles after the game as the team began to celebrate. TEXAS-UTSA SCORE:Roadrunners shock Longhorns in NCAA Austin Regional Norris McClure's two-run home run in the first inning provided the Roadrunners with an early lead and set the pace for the 7-4 victory over the in-state rival. "That was one of the greatest games in baseball that I had ever been a part of," McClure said on the ESPN broadcast after the game. "We knew we had talent and just had to stay where our feet were." UTSA had seven different players score a run in the game. Ty Hodge was responsible for three of those RBIs on two hits. Pitcher Gunnar Brown allowed six hits and one earned run with four strikeouts and two walks in five innings pitched against the Longhorns. Texas was the second top-two school to get eliminated in its home regional afterWright State beat No. 1 seed Vanderbilt5-4 on Sunday. Texas out-hit UTSA 9-8 in the game, including two from Max Belyeu and Rylan Galvan. Belyeu had a two-run home run in the top of the ninth that brought in Galvan and helped the Longhorns cut into the lead, 7-4. As it turns out, those were the last runs of the season for the Longhorns. The Roadrunners' win wasn't a fluke, either. Hallmark's team won both of the teams' two prior meetings this season: 8-7 in 12 innings on March 18 and9-7on May 31. The latter of those sent Texas to the loser's bracket in the Austin Regional on June 1. Yankees injuries: Domínguez jams thumb and Weaver tweaks hamstringNew Foto - Yankees injuries: Domínguez jams thumb and Weaver tweaks hamstring

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Yankees outfielder Jasson Domínguez jammed his left thumb on a stolen base Sunday night and was removed froma 7-3 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers. New York closer Luke Weaver wasn't able to pitch at all because of a sore hamstring. Domínguez walked and swiped second with a headfirst slide in the fifth inning. He came around to score on DJ LeMahieu's one-out single, but was lifted for a pinch hitter in the sixth. "He couldn't really swing," manager Aaron Boone said. "It was (serious) enough for him to come out of the game." The 22-year-old rookie left fielder was expected to have tests Monday in New York. Boone initially planned to use Weaver in the ninth with the Yankees ahead 7-3. "He had finished warming up and then when he went to stretch felt something in the middle of his hammy, so we had to kind of make a switch on the fly," Boone said. "Hoping it's not too serious." Tim Hill retired the side in order in the ninth as the Yankees avoided getting swept in a series for the first time this season. ___ AP MLB:https://apnews.com/hub/mlb

Wright State stuns No. 1 Vanderbilt with historic upset in baseball regionalsNew Foto - Wright State stuns No. 1 Vanderbilt with historic upset in baseball regionals

Wright State pulled off a historic upset on Sunday afternoon in Nashville. Wright State stunned top-seeded Vanderbilt in its own regional in a 5-4 win on Sunday afternoon. That officially sent the No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament home before the regional final, which is something that hasn't happened under the current format — which was adopted in 1999. The Commodores were the first No. 1 seed to be eliminated in the regionals round since UCLA fell in 2015. Vanderbilt has now been knocked out in the regional rounds for a fourth straight season. The Commodores started Austin Nye, though he faced just seven batters and gave up four runs before they pulled him. Vanderbilt started slowly crawling back into the game, and it put up three runs in the final inning in large part due to a two-run single from Mike Mancini. But RJ Austin flew out to end the game, which allowed Wright State to make it out with the one-run win. It had to turn around right away and take on Louisville on Sunday night, and the Cardinals rolled to a 6-0 win. The Cardinals are now advancing to the super regional. Wright State was playing in its third regional final, and its first since 2016. Vanderbilt was the second top team to go down on Sunday. No. 2 Texas fell 7-4 to UTSA for a second straight day, which knocked the Longhorns out of the Austin regional early. That sent the Roadrunners to the super regionals for the first time in program history. 🗣️HEADED TO SUPERS#BirdsUp🤙 |#LetsGo210pic.twitter.com/K2v4ijGcVT — UTSA Baseball ⚾️ (@UTSABSB)June 2, 2025
