Bill Belichick: Jordon Hudson 'doesn't have anything to do with UNC football'New Foto - Bill Belichick: Jordon Hudson 'doesn't have anything to do with UNC football'

North Carolina head coach Bill Belichick shot down the notion that his relationship with 24-year-old Jordon Hudson has impacted his ability to properly lead the football program. "That's really off to the side," hetold ESPNon Tuesday from the ACC Spring Meetings. "It's a personal relationship and she doesn't have anything to do with UNC football." Belichick, 73, is considered one of the greatest coaches in football history. He led the New England Patriots from 2000-2023, helping the team claim six Super Bowl victories. After mutually agreeing to part ways with the franchise in January 2024, he was named head coach of the Tar Heels the following December. Belichick and Hudson's relationship was first made public that same month, when they walked the red carpet together at the American Museum of Natural History Gala. Questions immediately rose due to the 49-year age gap. Theygot much louder in late Aprilwhen Belichick appeared on "CBS Mornings" ahead of the release of his memoir, "The Art of Winning: Lessons from My Life in Football." When correspondent Tony Dokoupil asked how the couple met, Hudson, sitting in the background, said, "We're not talking about this." Belichick has since released a statement saying they had nothing to hide about how they met. "Some of the clips make it appear as though we were avoiding the question of how we met, but we have been open about the fact that Jordon and I met on a flight to Palm Beach in 2021," he said. Pete Rose reinstated by MLB and is eligible for Baseball Hall of Fame Celtics star Jayson Tatum has surgery for torn Achilles Jordan Spieth, inspired by Rory McIlroy, once again eyes career Grand Slam at PGA NBC Sportsreported last monththat Hudson is "very involved" in Belichick's role with UNC. "From his coaching job at North Carolina to the program's negotiations with NFL Films about a Hard Knocks-style documentary/infomercial, she is taking a very active role," Mike Florio reported. "And exerting a very high degree of influence." Belichick, however, refuted that on Tuesday. Asked by ESPN whether he has spoken with his team about "what's going on off the field," he said he has. "We want to make the players the best they can be and provide them the best opportunity on and off the field," he said. "That's what we're about at UNC and we're going to do the best for every single player that we have."

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — Masters champion Rory McIlroy is heading Down Under for the first time in more than a decade to play the Australian Open on Melbourne's famed sandbelt courses for the next two years. Golf Australia said Wednesday that McIlroy, who completed hiscareer Grand Slamwith hiswin at Augusta in Aprilwould play on the Royal Melbourne composite course from Dec. 4-7 and at nearby Kingston Heath in 2026. Kingston Heathwill host the Presidents Cupin 2028, the fourth time it has been played in Australia, with the previous three times at Royal Melbourne. McIlroy will attempt to win his second Stonehaven Cup. He won the Australian Open in 2013 at Royal Sydney and returned the following year when it was played at another Sydney course, The Australian, but hasn't played in Australia since. "I'm proud to be committing to the Australian Open for the next two years, especially with it being played on the world-class Melbourne sandbelt, somewhere I've always wanted to play professionally" McIlroy said. "The success of the Australian Open is important for the global game." Royal Melbourne has hosted the Australian Open 17 times but not since 1991. The men's Australian Open will follow the Australian PGA Championship (Nov. 27-30 at Royal Queensland in Brisbane), with both events again co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour. ___ AP golf:https://apnews.com/hub/golf

Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw to make season debut Saturday in return from multiple surgeriesNew Foto - Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw to make season debut Saturday in return from multiple surgeries

Year 18 for Clayton Kershaw officially has its start date. Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Robertstold reporters Tuesdaythat the three-time Cy Young winner will make his season debut on Saturday against the Los Angeles Angels. Kershaw missed the first month and a half of the season whilerehabbing from surgeries on both his foot and knee last November. Kershaw hasposted a 2.57 ERA in five rehab starts, three of which were spent with the Triple-A Oklahoma City Comets. At 37 years old, Kershaw is the longest-tenured player on the Dodgers and several years removed from his prime. While he holds a strong 2.79 ERA since the 2020 season, he hasn't pitched more than 131 2/3 innings in a single season in that span. Last year was his worst by far, missing the first four or so months due to shoulder surgery and the final month, plus the postseason, with a bone spur in his left big toe. He still at least got toenjoy celebrating a second World Series championship with the Dodgers. While the overarching narrative of last offseason was that the Dodgers did need Kershaw, with a stacked rotation and significant depth in the minors, the team still brought him back on a one-year, $7.5 million deal. Not many players would get that sum after undergoing three surgeries in the span of two offseasons, with a 4.50 ERA between them, but that is how much Kershaw means to the team. Kershaw is also coming back to the Dodgers when they actually do need him. Despite their depth, the team's wave of injuries has sidelined both Tyler Glasnow and Blake Snell. Rookie Roki Sasaki has also struggled in his first big-league go-around.

During the session, Flagg recorded10.83 secondsin the pro lane drill, a 29-inchstanding vertical leap, and a 35.5-inch maximum vert. "I thought it was really good," Flagg said of the session in Chicago. "A lot of testing. Guys go out there, working hard, showing what they can do, so I thought it was a really good day." And then just the ability to keep working on my shot." Flagg's performance at the combine came the morning after the Dallas Maverickssecured the first pickin the NBA Draft. According to ESPN,the Mavs plan to keep the pick and draft Flagg, rather than trade it. His entry would team him up alongside Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving, who could return from his ACL injury in January 2026. After trading Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers in February, Dallas suffered several injuries, including to Davis in his first game for the Mavericks and Irving later in the season. The team finished 10th in the Western Conference with a 39-43 record before losing to Memphis in the Play-In Tournament. Flagg averaged 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists in his lone season at Duke, which lost to Houston in the Final Four.
